The 1st XI slipped in their game against Sheen Park at the top of the Surrey County League Division 1 table on a day when Sheen won in all departments at the Recreation Ground.
The visitors won the toss and elected to field, and Sanjeeva Witetunga was the only Claygate batsman to real make any impact. He made 43 with the next highest scorer Tuan Hadgie on 20 and talented junior Rudy Talboys at number 11 making 19. Claygate finished on a disappointing 141 all out from only 39 overs. Sheen Park spinner Shahid Mahmood took six Claygate wickets for just 14 runs in 6 overs.
Despite 3 wickets for medium fast medium bowler Joel Watkins, Sheen Park always looked in control with an opening stand of 83 and eased to a 6 wicket victory after 24 overs.
The 2nd X1 had an excellent win over Hook and Southborough after the home side had won the toss and elected to field first. On a wicket that always had variable bounce, Damian Ross (66) held the early overs together for Claygate having been 10 for 3 after just 5 overs. The middle order then gave the scoreboard respectability with Harry Holly 32 and captain Steve Salmon making 52 not out and Kieran Williams 35 in a 95 run 8th wicket partnership.. Claygate were able to accelerate at the end finishing with 214 for 8 from 47.5 overs.
Claygate took early wickets with Nigel Abbott (4 for 17) doing the early damage and Williams (4 for 29) closing out the innings with two vital wickets at the end. Russ Guyatt caught two spectacular catches at slip and 14 year old wicket keeper Harry Holly put in a fine display behind the stumps. Hook and Southbrough were all out for 90 giving Claygate full points and moving to 3rd in the 2nd XI table only two points behind Morden with 5 games to go and the two leaders playing each other next weekend.
