66 run victory has Claygate moving

A 66 run victory in a rain reduced match over Chaldon has helped Claygate move away from the bottom of the table and looking more confident of staying in the Fullers Surrey County League 1st Division this season. Claygate are now in 5th position in the league with 4 games left to play. Next Saturday’s clash against bottom club Roehampton may prove decisive as improved Claygate need to capitalise on the opportunity.
On Saturday, Chaldon won the toss and chose to field and limited Claygate to 180. Sanjeeva Witetunga, now recovered from his broken ankle, started the innings well with 33, Tuan Hadgie made 44 and Scott Labacik weighed in with 32.
Rajindu Rodrigo continued his fine form this season taking wickets early and bagged another 'fifer'. He now has 39 wickets and is the second highest wicket taker in the Fullers League. Luke Webb also took two as Claygate quickly made inroads into the Chaldon batting line up. Despite a 52 run 8th wicket stand. Claygate polished off the opposition for 114. The 20 points lift Claygate out of the relegation area and with a cushion of 24 points.
The 2nd XI lost to league leaders London Gymkana by 7 wickets. Batting first Claygate compiled 175-8 with Damian Ross (40), returning Jake Dear (30) and ‘man of the match’ Tom Law with 61. Gymkhana made a positive start and Claygate never really looked like they were in the hunt but Tom Law contributed well with 2 for 41. Claygate lost by 7 wickets in 32 overs and are now second from the bottom of the Division with a big points gap between them and next side Newdigate.
