The latest element of our challenging year!

We’ve had an extraordinary range of issues to manage over the season, everything from the
junior kit store fire, decisions over the clubhouse, the disciplinary action and the implications of the Travellers incursion - as well as sustaining a full junior programme and two strong pushes for promotion and an active Sunday fixture list…to name but six!.

So we would have hoped there would have been a good turnout at the AGM to discuss
some of the big issues for 2019. Instead we weren’t quorate....and whilst we had a good ad hoc meeting we were not able to undertake any of the elections, approve the accounts etc.

It’s not without precedent, but hopefully the new date of Thursday January 10th (8pm, Oak & olive, The Ministry Centre at Holy Trinity church) will
be a better one for everyone without the pressure of the build-up to Christmas.

We thought some of the key points from our ‘ad hoc’ session might be of interest…

  • Financially we’ve recovered tremendously well from our low point this time last year.
  • We had disappointment for the 1st XI …but well done the 2nd XI on promotion
  • The Sunday 1st won half their games and stand-out performances from the juniors
  • We’ve added a number of new players and seen a number of current and past juniors play with great effect over the season. Thanks too to our Sri Lanka contingent
  • We now have over 100 in the junior section and the All Stars programme was also successful this year, attracting over 100 youngsters ages 4-8.
  • Progress is now being made on the Clubhouse and we are ready to play our part in building the new facility which will be considerably enhanced from Mark 1.

Next summer we will see…

  • The clubhouse being built for opening in 2020...
  • The 2nd XI playing in the second division and building on our junior participation…
  • The juniors continuing to thrive…but we need someone to help Pam for the future!
  • We always need new players …and we also need a club umpire...
  • We need a new Treasurer although we’ve organised help with the daily accounts
  • Jamie takes over as 1st XI captain, Bryony as fixture sec and James as Social Secretary - subject to voting on the 10th of course!

Look forward to seeing as many as we can in January.
The Chairman will also be in the chair at the Hare and Hounds afterwards!
Have a good Christmas!

Nigel - Chairman
