With the opposition at 105 all out it looked like victory was in the bag for the Recreation Ground side against visitors Newdigate, but with the ball keeping low on the newly laid Claygate pitch the home side managed to conjure up a defeat – losing by 19 runs.

Having won the toss, Claygate asked Newdigate to bat first and Rajindhu Rodrigo continued his excllent form with his third ‘fifer’ in three games. He took 5 for 33 as the visitors slumped to 105 all out. Other wickets takers were Chris Howe with two and the returning Julian Da Silva with 3 for 8 making short work of the tail.

At the half way point Claygate would have been permted to think of the full 20 points, but the wicket continued to stay low and no Claygate batsman troubled the scorers, posting a total of only 86 all out in just 26.4 overs. Cooper taking 4 for 22.

Claygate are second from bottom of the 1st Division table.

Playing the reverse game at Newdigate and on a fine batting track the Claygate bowling attack struggled against an fine opening partnership - Dave Wrightson making a terrific 134 not out. Elliot Lamble was Claygate’s most succesful bowler taking 3 wickets the day after his return from University. Newdigate declared at 260 for 4 . Claygate made a good effort led by James McPhail 68 and Damian Ross 38. At the close, Claygate were 46 short with two wickets standing, but a lower run rate gave them the loosing draw. Claygate 2nds are also second from bottom of the divison.
