Both Claygate league sides lost this weekend with the margin of the 1st XI defeat being narrow and frustrating at just 8 runs.

With one win from their first two games, Claygate were away at Gymkhana who won the toss and elected to bat on the opposition’s home ground at Isleworth.
On a difficult wicket, the Claygate bowlers had Gymkhana struggling (Rajindhu Rodrigo 3 wickets) and the home side finished on 126 all out - giving Claygate a terrific opportunity to overcome a modest score.
But the conditions continued to be the major factor and Claygate fell short by 8 runs in a very tight finish.
After three weekends of the season Claygate are now in the middle of the Fullers Surrey County League 1st Division table with Gymkhana table-topping after three wins from three.

Meanwhile the 2nd XI was well beaten by an excellent all-round performance by league leaders Teddington Town. Fielding first on a track that initially gave some help to the bowlers Ashar Kanwal (2 for 46) and Nigel Abbott started off well and with the score at 35 for 3 it augured well. But some loose bowling in the middle overs meant Teddington scored 50-70 runs too many and closed on 255 for 7. Stephen Rose compiled a classy 122 before being run out by Ashar in the final over.
Facing a big total was always going to be uphill task , and with a tight Teddington bowling attack and the fall of early wickets Claygate struggled to make any real impression. There was a belligerent 25 from skipper Russ Guyatt and a good looking 21 from David Andrews, but Claygate finished well short on 113 all out from 34 overs.

The Sunday side also lost in an excellent game against old rivals Old Woking and also by a narrow margin - just 10 runs short with 1 wicket standing. Old Woking made 193, Claygate in reply 183 for 9. Allan Von Koynenburg had an excellent bowling spell returning 5 for 38.
