Monday 2nd September was a highly emotional afternoon at Holy Trinity Church, Claygate with the funeral service for Steve ‘Stixy’ Talboys. At one of the largest funerals seen in the village for many years over 500 people turned out with a very large contingent from both the amateur and professional footballing worlds.

Steve died in Spain 3 weeks ago as a result of a heart attack at the age of 52.

Many of former players were there from his time at Premier League Wimbledon FC such as Mick Hartford and Dean Holdsworth, who also delivered a lengthy tribute including messages from other members of ‘The Crazy Gang’ including Robbie Earle and Vinnie Jones.

Several players and friends from CCC were also there to say goodbye to their former teammate. All three of the boys - Arlie, Rudy and Maddox, who have all played in our junior teams, gave highly emotional personal tributes as well of course from his wife Michelle.

Steve was buried in the Churchyard immediately after the service.
