Social XI Seal 29‑Run Victory Over 1st XI in Entertaining Friendly

Friendly match – Claygate CC, 2 May 2026

Result: Claygate CC Social XI won by 29 runs
Claygate CC Social XI produced an impressive all‑round performance to defeat the 1st XI by 29 runs in a lively friendly at Claygate, with strong batting contributions at the top and middle order backed up by disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.

Social XI Innings – 208/5 (30 overs)
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Social XI made full use of good batting conditions to post a competitive 208 for 5 from their allotted 30 overs.
The innings was anchored superbly by Gareth Williams and Joe Lukens, both of whom retired not out on 50. Williams set the tone early, striking 10 boundaries in a fluent 36‑ball half‑century, rotating the strike efficiently and punishing anything loose. At the other end, Lukens provided stability, compiling his 50 from 44 balls with 7 fours and a six, ensuring the run rate never dipped.
While Damian Ross battled difficult early conditions for his 18 from 44 balls, the momentum was lifted dramatically by Akram Syed, who played one of the most explosive innings of the day. Syed smashed 43 from just 20 balls, including six fours and a six, pushing the Social XI well past the 200 mark before being run out attempting another big shot.
Useful late runs came from AJ White, who remained unbeaten on 12 from 9 balls, while tight bowling spells from James Mote (3 wickets for 19 runs) prevented an even bigger total.

1st XI Chase – 179 all out (29.5 overs)
The 1st XI began the chase steadily but struggled to maintain partnerships as regular wickets stalled their momentum.
Oliver Daniels top‑scored with a determined 46 from 50 balls, striking 10 fours, while Mike Roberts added impetus in the middle overs with 30 from 22 balls. James Mote (25) and Kishore Gouni contributing 43 from 32 balls briefly threatened to swing the match back in the 1st XI’s favour, pushing the total past 150.
However, the chase unravelled rapidly in the final overs. A dramatic collapse saw the last six wickets fall for just 45 runs, with four batters dismissed for ducks, leaving the 1st XI bowled out for 179 in 29.5 overs.

Damian Ross delivered a match‑defining spell, taking 2 wickets for just 5 runs from 2 overs, applying late pressure that triggered the collapse.
Joe Lukens claimed 2 wickets, playing a key role in breaking partnerships.
Support came from across the attack, with accurate lines and well‑set fields limiting easy scoring opportunities.
