A tough afternoon for Claygate CC 1st XI saw Farnham CC 2nd XI claim a 72-run victory at the Claygate Cricket Club ground after posting a challenging 242-8 from their 45 overs.

After losing the toss and being asked to field, Claygate worked hard throughout the innings and regularly chipped away at the Farnham batting line-up. Arthur Gent Eggott anchored the visitors' innings with 54, while Angus Watson struck an aggressive 49 and Michael O'Mahony added 35. Will Kirkland (36), Alexander Kardamilakis (25) and Henry Beattie (25) all made useful contributions as Farnham built a competitive total.

The pick of the Claygate bowlers was Tom Sapsed, who produced an excellent spell to finish with 4 wickets for 30 runs from his six overs. Tom removed Michael O'Mahony, Will Kirkland, Rory Shayler and Henry Beattie to keep Claygate firmly in the contest. There were also wickets for Ross Davies (2-42), Luke Webb (1-27) and Nicky Ison (1-27), while the fielders backed up well with catches from Luke Webb, Oli Graham, Noah Luxman, Jamie Board and Ross Davies.

Chasing 243 for victory, Claygate made a steady start but found runs difficult to come by against a disciplined Farnham attack. Nicky Ison scored 17 at the top of the order before being caught by Angus Watson off Luke Wilkinson.

The backbone of the reply came from Noah Luxman, who batted calmly and responsibly for a superb 46 from 79 balls, striking four boundaries as wickets fell around him. Noah was involved in several key partnerships and looked set to guide Claygate deep into the chase before he was eventually dismissed by Ninad Desai.

Excellent support came from Matthew Proudman, who played one of his best innings of the season, making 41 from 52 deliveries, including four fours and a six. The third-wicket partnership between Noah and Matt provided Claygate's best momentum of the innings and briefly raised hopes of a successful chase.

Further contributions came from Ross Davies (18), Tom Sapsed (16), Jamie Board (9), Jody Alexander (9) and Oli Graham (4), but regular wickets prevented Claygate from building the sustained partnerships needed to threaten Farnham's total.

Farnham's bowling attack shared the wickets around, with Michael O'Mahony and Will Kirkland both claiming three wickets, while Ninad Desai finished with two wickets as Claygate were eventually bowled out for 170 in 40.1 overs.

Despite the defeat, there were several encouraging individual performances for Claygate. Tom Sapsed's four-wicket haul was the standout effort with the ball, while Noah Luxman's composed 46 and Matthew Proudman's valuable 41 led the resistance with the bat. However, Farnham's strong first-innings total ultimately proved too much to overcome as the visitors secured a 72-run win.

Claygate CC were edged out in a high-scoring and entertaining friendly against Sardar Yuva CC, with the visitors reaching their target of 230 with just two wickets to spare.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Claygate posted a competitive 229 all out from their 40 overs, thanks largely to an outstanding innings from Nick Beresford, who carried his bat for a magnificent 74 not out. In a innings where wickets fell regularly around him, Beresford provided the backbone of the scorecard with a composed and determined knock.

Useful contributions came throughout the order, with Joe Moore (18), Allan Van Konynenburg (17) and Juned Ahmed (15) all getting starts, while Rich Collinson, Mike Sollars and Scott Labacik each added 11. Claygate were also boosted by a sizeable extras contribution of 51 runs, helping push the total towards the 230 mark.

Sardar Yuva shared the wickets around effectively. Chirag Arahant claimed three wickets, while Dharmik Patel, Purevsh Patel, Nil Patel and Viral Patel all chipped in with important breakthroughs.

In reply, Sardar Yuva raced out of the blocks and kept the scoreboard moving throughout the chase. The key innings came from Chirag Arahant, who produced a match-winning 91, striking 13 fours and three sixes in a dominant display that put the visitors firmly in control.

He was well supported by Vaibhav Naik (27), Hitesh Patel (26), Dharmik Patel (22 not out) and Purevsh Patel (19) as Sardar Yuva chased down the target in just 31 overs.

Claygate's bowlers battled hard and continued to take wickets to keep the contest alive. Juned Ahmed was the standout performer, returning figures of 3-35 from 5 overs, removing Vaibhav Naik, Chirag Arahant and Hitesh Patel. Jonathan Law also impressed with 2-44, while Scott Labacik (1-20), Mark Prickett (1-25) and Oscar Madley (1-33) each picked up a wicket.

Despite Claygate's efforts in the field, Sardar Yuva's aggressive batting and the crucial innings from Arahant ultimately proved the difference as the visitors reached 230-8 to secure a narrow 2-wicket victory.

While the result did not go Claygate's way, there were plenty of positives to take from the match, particularly Nick Beresford's unbeaten 74 and Juned Ahmed's three-wicket haul, as Claygate pushed a strong opposition side all the way in an entertaining Sunday fixture.

Women's Softball: Claygate CC beat Sunbury CC by 58 runs

Claygate Women produced an excellent all-round performance to defeat Sunbury CC by 58 runs in their Surrey Cricket Championship Softball fixture.

After being put into bat, Sunbury posted 92-7 from their 16 overs (Net Score 257). Claygate's bowlers and fielders kept the pressure on throughout the innings, restricting the visitors' scoring and taking regular wickets.

In reply, Claygate comfortably chased down the target to finish on 135-4 from 16 overs (Net Score 315). The standout batting performance came from Sarah Kelly, who top-scored with an excellent 41, while Sona Coetzee (18) and Emma O'Brien (14) made valuable contributions. Further runs from Annie Miles (8), Kirsty Carr (8) and Sarah O'Brien (6) helped Claygate build a match-winning total.

It was a strong team display from Claygate, combining disciplined bowling and fielding with confident batting to secure a convincing victory and maximum points in the Women's Softball Tier 2 North West competition.
