David Andrews writes...
The Sunday XI narrowly lost to Surrey Cryptics CC at home. Batting first on a sticky wicket, Surrey Cryptics scored freely for the first 30 overs, despite Craig Schultz snaring two unsuspecting batsmen with a canny full toss and an irrefutable LBW.
Excellent death bowling from Laurence Ernest and Jefe Cervello, however, saw the opposition restrained to 210 off 40 overs and Claygate’s morale lifted ahead of a well-earned tea.
In reply, with the sun out and pitch drying, Claygate got off to a positive start with Paddy Willard hitting an assured 20. Wickets fell at regular intervals, however, and despite a grinding 37 from Damian Ross and textbook 53 from Jefe Cervello, Claygate finished 15 runs short. Our thanks to Surrey Cryptics for an enjoyable and entertaining afternoon of cricket.
